"Blue Moon In December" CD Cover Art Posted - CD Soon To Be Released!
Hello Friends!
The new CD album cover art is here, and I've posted the cover on this site.

Today I completed forwarding the master CD and professionally designed album artwork to the manufacturer. I should have the test copy in my hands this coming Tuesday, February 15th for final proofing.

Assuming there are no audio or design replication errors in the test CD, the first printing of the album "Blue Moon In December" could possibly be here by February 20th, Saturday.

I'm very excited about the wonderfully artistic and unique CD layout and design my friend Erik Bell, of Shine, did. Erik took the terrific photos that D. Major Cohen shot at the live in-studio recording session I did at Elliott Bay Recording Co., in Seattle, WA on December 31st, 2009, and created several collages that show the passion and depth of my music on the cover, inside liner, and back of the CD.

I'll keep you informed of the arrival of the completed CDs, and will also notify you of the date of my CD Release Party, which will be held at 15th Ave. Coffee and Tea, 328 15th Ave E., Seattle, WA 98112 www.streetlevelcoffee.com

Thanks once again to both D. Major Cohen, for his photos, and Erik Bell, of Shine, for his CD layout and design. I'm grateful to both of you for your wonderful assistance.

New Performance Videos of Ed Zincavage Coming Soon!
I've submitted 4 new live performance videos to my webhost at Broadjam for posting on this site. They should be up and running sometime around February 18th or so.

Stay tuned to check these out...especially for those of you who live in Eastern Europe and other countries outside the U.S.

Videos of songs performed live by Ed include: "Blanche Le Fleur", "Bus Ride To Chiapas", "Promise Of A Brand New Day", and "Can't Get You Off My Mind".

All of these songs were performed live, at 15th Ave Coffee and Tea, Seattle, WA
in November of 2009 by Ed Zincavage. One of them was performed by Ed along with Pam Mortensen on didgeridoo.

I hope you enjoy them!

15th Ave Coffee and Tea Performance Well Attended!

Special thanks to Brendan, and all his friends from the University of WA for taking time out from their studies to come hear my show. Also, thanks to Don and Tevis for their presence and kind comments.

As usual, the staff at 15th Ave Coffee and Tea provided great hospitality. Many thanks to 'Becca, Loren, Alex, and Jay!

For those of you who missed this show, I'll be performing again at 15th Ave Coffee and Tea on Saturday, February 20th, at 4pm to 6pm. Be sure to be there!

Album Cover Art Almost Ready for New "Blue Moon In December" CD
Hi Friends,
The album cover art for my new album "Blue Moon In December" is almost completed! It looks fantastic, and I'm thrilled about how well it turned out.

My friend Erik Bell, is a professional graphic designer, and he's been working on this for a few weeks now.

With luck, Erik and I will get this cover completed and the album will go into manufacturing sometime in the second week of February. I'm hoping to have it readly for a CD release party at one of my performances at 15th Ave Coffee and Tea in late February.

More will be revealed as this CD progresses...

Thanks again for all your continued support!
Wayward Coffeehouse Performance a Success!
Thanks to all of you who came out to the Wayward Coffeehouse in the Greenwood District on a rainy evening to see me perform; along with Pam Mortensen on didgeridoo, and my guitar student Eric on vocals.

Also, thanks to all those friends who attended, shot video as well as photos, and helped schlep gear: Lisa, Vick, Don, Todd, Anne, and Ryan.

Pam played a wonderful set of her beautiful and captivating didgeridoo originals and a few cover songs. Pam has a new album coming out soon, as she's been in Elliott Bay Recording Co. laying tracks the last few weeks.

Also, thanks to the staff at Wayward Coffeehouse, Anna, for her assistance and great food!

"BLUE MOON IN DECEMBER" SONGS NOW AVAILABLE ONLINE
My new album "Blue Moon In December" is recorded and mastered. The tracks from the album are now here on my website for your listening pleasure, and can be streamed free; or you may purchase songs for $.99 each if you wish.

This is a great way to hear the tracks while the physical album is in the process of being manufactured. The CD should be ready in about two to three weeks from today.

I hope you enjoy the new songs from this album. As I mentioned before, all the songs here (11 of them) were recorded on December 31, 2009 live at Elliott Bay Recording Co., with no overdubs, in front of an in-studio audience of 15+ people.

This album received it's title from having been recorded during the 2nd full moon of the month (thus, the Blue Moon). (The first full moon in December 2009 was on December 1st, 2009.) There was also a Lunar Eclipse happening at the same time as when we were recording the album on December 31st, 2009.

(Thanks to David Sherry for the idea to name this album after the "Blue Moon in December". David has been a guitar student of mine.)

Album and Cover Art In Progress
The new album cover art and assembly is in progress. I've also posted the songs online so that you can preview my new work. I'm very happy with the new album. Scott Ross, at Elliott Bay Recording Co. did a great job recording and producing them. Pam Mortensen also plays great didgeridoo on two of the songs.

I've temporarily removed some of the older songs, and Blood of a Poet band songs to make room to promote this new album "Blue Moon In December", to be released in the next several weeks.

These things always take a little longer than expected, but I hope to have the CD ready to release by the end of February or beginning of March 2010. In the meantime, enjoy the songs posted and come to the live shows in January and February. I'll keep you abreast of the date of the CD Release Party upcoming!
New Album "Blue Moon In December" Coming Soon !
Hello Everybody. I can't believe it's already January 8th, 2010!

I've updated my website with new and exciting photos from the recent recording session I had to make this new album: "Blue Moon In December".

I've also included the new songs from the CD on my "Songs" page, so you can preview them before the CD arrives.

There's a new and moving rendition of "Just Like A Pilgrim Stuck Inside Times Square" (with a harmonica solo, and no piano or cello); as well as a terrific "swamp-blues" down and dirty version of "Bus Ride To Chiapas" with my friend Pam Mortensen on her didgeridoo, providing the bass textures to my 12-string Delta Blues-ish slide guitar, dirty harmonica, and field hollers.

The studio audience was awesome to work with.

Thanks so much to D Major Cohen for the awesome photos of the recording session.

Hello Friends,
I'm grateful and thankful for all of your support this last year. 2009 has been a year of growth for me and my music. 2010 looks like it will be even beter!

This album will be available for sale sometime in early 2010.

There's much excitement surrounding this recording event on December 31st, with a hand-picked audience of my guitar students, friends, supporters, fellow-musicians, and photo and video professionals. It should prove to be fun and productive.

There will be photos taken at the studio event, to be used on the cover and liner of the album to be made in the first week of January; as well as video taken of the creative process inside the studio. Thanks to all my friends and supporters for their help in this process. This has been quite an undertaking, and I'm grateful for your help.

A Terrific Time at 15th Ave Coffee and Tea Performance on Saturday Night
Thanks to all of my friends who turned out last night to see myself, Pam Mortensen, and my guitar student Eric perform at 15th Ave Coffee and Tea!
We had a great time sharing our music with you and talking to you at the breaks, and after the gig. Thanks to: Laura, Lisa, Dawn, Todd, Anne, Eric, Michele, Major, Annie, Sharon, my guitar student Don, and several other friends. We're grateful for your continued support.

As usual, the staff of baristas were very helpful and ready with coffee, tea, salmon plates, sandwiches, and desserts. Thanks to: Molly, Amanda, and Alex for their great service!

Eric my special guest and I, opened the show with him singing three songs that showcased his wonderful voice, and nimble guitar skills. This was only Eric's second show in front of a "real cafe audience" and he was greatly appreciated. I sang harmony on two of the songs he played.

Pam Mortensen brought down the house with her trance-inducing and skillful didgeridoo and hand percussion performance. The cafe staff was kind enough to dim the lights, which added more atmosphere to her performance.

I performed two duets with Pam during the evening: "Walk the Dog" (to be included on my upcoming album with a new and revised edition) and "Bus Ride to Chiapas" which is a song on Pam's latest album.

Pam and I ended the evening with a new song that evolved on-the-spot from an impromptu jam session. We hope to finish writing this work and record it soon.

My next performances will be January 9th, and 23rd, 2010 at 15th Ave Coffee and Tea; and January 30th, 2010 at Wayward Coffeehouse. Hope to see you then, with my new record album in-hand!

The Buzz Is On For Tonight's Gig at 15th Ave Coffee and Tea in Seattle!
Word is quickly spreading that 15th Ave Coffee and Tea is the place to spend some time and see local music. www.streetlevelcoffee.com

Tonight I will present you with a solo performance of several of my new fingerstyle, slide blues and folk songs; as well as a duet performance with my friend Pam Mortensen on didgeridoo; and to top this off, Pam and I have a second special guest, Eric, a guitar student of mine performing three wonderful songs with his awesome voice.

Stop by and relax, unwind and get away from the holiday shopping for a short while and treat yourself to some great coffee, sandwiches, pastries, and music with friends. You deserve it!

Wayward Coffeehouse Gig Was Awesome
I'm very grateful to all of you folks who came out to support my friend Pam Mortensen on didgeridoo and myself on guitar and vocals tonight at the Wayward Coffeehouse. Pam, I really enjoyed your set. It was terrific!

Thanks to you, our fans,(especially Lisa, Michelle, Joe, Mark, Ann, Scott, and Jeff!) You, and everyone else there were a terrific audience!

Also thanks to the staff at Wayward Coffeehouse tonight: Amanda and Michelle. You made some wonderful sandwhiches and coffee for us.

***A quick reminder that I will return to Wayward Coffeehouse, with Pam Mortensen, on Saturday, January 30th from 8pm to 10pm. So, if you missed this show, be sure to catch the next one there!

Live In-Studio Performance Album to be Recorded at Elliot Bay Recording
Hello Everyone! I'm in the process of relinquishing my position as my own engineer in the studio, and heading very soon into Elliott Bay Recording to create a new "live" studio album.

On December 31st, 2009, I will have a live audience at the recording studio, and we will record the live performance of myself, and my friend and colleague Pam Mortensen just as we give our show at other venues. An audio CD will be made for sale from this live performance. I intend to capture the excitment and vitality of my live show by recording it in one take. (Remember the old radio shows where the performers did this? Who needs pitch correction or multitracking?)

This performance will be recorded on digital video so that we will have both the performance video available of myself and Pam; as well as a separate video of the recording process of making the live album (including the post production of mixing, sweetening, etc.)

The videos of the making of the live album will be posted on the appropriate websites (my site, Facebook, You Tube, My Space) to share them with you. If all goes well, I may even have a DVD of the performance to sell on my website (besides the audio CD).

I've known owner, engineer Scott Ross for several years, and I'll be working with him to put together the songs I've been performing live at my shows, so that they'll be made available to you, both at my upcoming performances, as well as at CD Baby, iTunes, and several other places.

You can find Elliott Bay Recording at: www.elliottbayrecording.com
Edward's New Video
Hello Friends!

Just a quick note to let you know that I've submitted a second live video to my Broadjam website host for approval.

This is a video filmed on November 21st, 2009 when I performed "Just Like a Pilgrim Stuck Inside Times Square" live at 15th Ave Coffee and Tea.

The video should be made available on my websites sometime this second week of December 2009. Hope you enjoy the song and the live performance video.

Fun at 15th Ave Coffee and Tea Nov. 14th
Thanks to those of you who came out to support local, live music in Seattle last Saturday night at my gig at the 15th Ave Coffee and Tea in Seattle!

We had a great time performing for you! Pam Mortensen was there again, to grace us with her didgeridoo music. She was amazing as usual!

Many thanks to my guitar student Eric, who played his brand new Taylor guitar (purchased from Moore Brothers Music, Sammamish, WA) and sang us two songs. Great performance Eric!
New Song "Graced Again" Posted/Guest at Tomorrow's Gig
Just a quick note to let you know my next performance is Saturday, November 14th at 15th Ave Coffee and Tea in Seattle. This time I'll have a very special guest with me named Eric. He's a student of mine, who I will accompany playing two songs. Eric has a terrific voice, and has been playing and singing for some time now. I'm sure you'll enjoy his music!

Also, I've just posted a new instrumental song I wrote last night on the 12-string guitar called "Graced Again". It's in open D tuning, and has an almost Christmas feel to it. I may end up using this as my "Christmas song".

Hope to see you soon at one of the live performances! All the best to you.
New Songs/Works In Progress
I've been writing consistently over the last year, and have several songs that are in various stages of completion. I've decided to post several of them here to share them with you, with the thought that some of you may enjoy seeing them develop. Some are complete and others are works in progress. Check them out under the "Songs" category on this site.
New Video
My colleague and friend Pam Mortensen and I just finished making my first, simple, music video a few days ago. It's now posted here and ready to be seen (under the video section). The song I play in the video is new to my website, and one that I've played for the last ten years. I just recently recorded it for the video, and have a new and different arrangement in mind for the audio version. Learning to edit video is my new challenge. More than ever, I have a much greater appreciation for those who make even small films and videos, let alone a movie feature. Hope you like the video. We shot it in Pam's didgeridoo studio, so there's lots of visual ambience from the didges hanging around.

Hope you can all be there.
LAST MINUTE GIG AT WAYWARD COFFEEHOUSE
My friend Pam Mortensen has asked me to play a last minute gig with her tonite at Wayward Coffee House in Seattle, WA 98103.

Pam plays didgeridoo and hand percussion. We'll both play some solo work and then do some duets with didgeridoo and 12-string guitar together.

Solo Gig at 15th Ave Coffee and Tea - October 3, 2009
I will be performing a solo gig (two sets) on Saturday nite, October 3, 2009 from 8pm to 10pm, at the new 15th Ave Coffee and Tea on Capitol Hill, in Seattle, WA 98112.

I'll be playing slide guitar on my new Alvarez 12-string, and fingerpicking on my Larivee L-05.

Both instruments are now equipped with wonderful L.R. Baggs M1 Active Pickups, played through a new Roland AC-90 acoustic guitar amplifier. This amp has a gorgeous stereo sound which includes onboard reverb and delay effects. The result is a deep and full sounding acoustic guitar.

Summer 2009
The Moore Brothers Music 5th Anniversary Party was a great success.

Most of the music instructors at the store performed with teacher bands. Many of the students who have bands also performed songs.

I performed 12-string slide guitar and harmonica along with Pam Mortensen on her didgerido. We played 2 songs: "Bus Ride to Chiapas", and "Walk the Dog" (the second song is not yet released).

All items at the store were on sale and a great time was had by everyone.
January 22, 2009
It's the New Year, with a historic new president for our country. Change is in the air.

I'm continuing work on new songwriting and recording; as well as a couple of music videos for this site. I will also be performing live in the Seattle area soon. Dates and times of the performances will be posted on this site.

I've started playing a Larrivee Model L-05 acoustic guitar (mahogany and cedar) lately and am enjoying the change from my old jumbo Guild F-50R acoustic. I've also picked up a new jumbo Alvarez AJ-60S blonde 12-string which I love for open tuning slide guitar songs.

Music instruction at Moore Brothers Music with my students is progressing well. I'm in the process of planning a student recital for late Spring, just before school lets out for the summer.

Moore Brothers Music continues to carry a full line of new Taylor guitars. Several of them have been in such demand that they've sold as soon as they arrive. Stop by the store up on the Sammamish Plateau if you're in the Seattle area and check out these beautiful guitars.

New Taylor Guitars Arrive at Moore Brothers Music
Several of the new Taylor Guitars have arrived at Moore Brothers Music in Sammamish, with more expected in soon! Stop by the store on the Sammamish Plateau, and talk to Troy or Scott Moore, and try out the Taylor T5 (electric/acoustic guitar) and the Leo Kotke Signature 12-String or the Taylor Jumbo 6-String.

Tell them Ed sent you.

These are very, very cool guitars!
Fall 2008
Temperatures are cooling and the holiday season's rapidly approaching. I'm continuing work on several new songs to release on an album in the near future.

Moore Brothers Music has a new shipment of 22 Taylor guitars arriving around November 3rd, 2008. They include several acoustic models as well as a few electric guitars. Stop by and check these gems out.

Have a good Holiday Season!

Summer 2008
Hello everyone. It's summer in Seattle and the store where I teach guitar (Moore Brothers Music in Sammamish, WA, USA) has just about completed a remodel. The store appears much larger, and more well-stocked than befor; and there now there are 2 additional teaching rooms.

I'm continuing work on my songwriting and preparing to record and release my work on a new CD this year; as well as return to some local solo gigs in Redmond and Seattle.

Have a great summer!
Spring 2008-Completed and New Projects
The Seattle weather is finally warming up! I'm thoroughly enjoying my new guitar lessons, and improving my musical skills. I've been composing new songs with the goal of sharing them with you this year; as well as returning to performing live in the Seattle/Redmond area with a show that has new songs.

On another note, my co-writing and mixing work with Pamela Mortensen on her on upcoming didgerido CD is complete. She will be releasing it soon to coincide with her upcoming performance at the Seattle World Rhythm Festival. Pamela will be performing live at the Seattle World Rhythm Festival at the Seattle Center April 25, 26, 27, 2008.

The jazz-funk band Pocket Change has released their second album called "4", which was recorded live in Seattle. I had a hand in helping mix their album along with Pamela Mortensen, and Tarik Abouzied. Pocket Change can often be found performing at the Triple Door Musicquarium in Seattle. Go to their website at: pchangemusic.com for more information.

A New Year
It's the end of the year. Students are leaving for Christmas vacations. Time for a few days off work and reflection before the new 365 days of creativity ahead. All the best to each of you in the New Year.

Beginning New Guitar/Theory/Composition Studies
As a guitar/music teacher, I've learned that I have to keep up with my own studies in order to be better qualified to teach my own students. I've been looking for a new guitar and theory teacher for the last year; and have been blessed to discover and be accepted for lessons with a very accomplished guitar instructor who's work and artistic attitude I greatly admire.

Tom Baker is my new teacher, and he instructs out of Rosewood Guitar in Seattle. Tom has taught for years at the University of Washington, and has a PhD in Music Composition and a Masters Degree in Classical Guitar. Besides playing classical guitar, he plays electric guitar in an experimental jazz quartet; as well as fretless guitar with microtonal tuning. I'm very excited to be on a new path to be growing and learning as a musician and teacher.

Tom Baker's website is: www.tombakercomposer.com/

Former Guitar Student's Performance at Starbucks
I thoroughly enjoyed a performance last nite by a former guitar student of mine, Alex Woods, at the BellSquare Starbucks in Bellevue, WA. Alex sang his own compositions, accompanying himself on electric guitar and keyboard, to a standing-room only crowd.

As teachers, it's always interesting to see our students grow in their creativity, and Alex has grown much in the last two years. He sings and plays an emotive style reminiscent of both Tom York and Neil Young; as well as playing gorgeous instrumentals with ambient guitar influenced by Sigur Ros and Robin Guthrie of Cocteau Twins.

Alex Woods website is: www.alexwoodsmusic.com

Engineering and Producing a Classical CD for Student
In the month of November, my colleague Pam Mortensen and I spent time in her studio recording a 3-song CD of Classical Art Songs for Elena, a student who is heading off to further her music studies in college.

Elena, a vocal student of Melissa, one of the instructors at Moore Brothers Music, in Sammamish, WA; did a great job of singing the songs in French, German, and Old English. We wish her the best in her future voice and theatrical studies at college.
Fall 2007 Studio Work on Three Projects
I'm currently enjoying working with three different artists to help them engineer, mix, master, and produce their new albums. Thes include: a live CD for Tarik Abouzied and the funk-jazz band "Pocket Change", Pamela Mortensen's new didgerido/synth/vocal CD, and Cameron's electroacoustic CD. I'm grateful to be working with such talented artists; each of whom is from Seattle.

Look for "Pocket Change" Live at the Triple Door December 17 in Seattle and their CD release that night.
Bus Ride to Chaipas
Here's a new song that I co-wrote with my friend and colleague Pamela Mortensen. She plays the didgerido on this one. This is a song from her upcoming didgerido album that I'm helping her mix and produce.
Check out her website: www.pamelamortensen.com
June 2007 New Songs Added
I've posted three new songs, each in a different style, on the site this week. I have a backlog of songs I'm trying to complete in-between working on other folks' recording projects (which I enjoy). There's more songs to come in the next couple of weeks. Hope you dig some of these new tunes.
Spring 2007
My good friend and colleague, Pamela Mortensen and I are heading into the studio this month to mix and master her new album due out this summer. We'll be using the new Sonar 6 software, as well as Sony's Sound Forge and CD Architect, along with some analog gear. Pam teaches piano, voice and didgerido at Moore Brothers Music (where I teach as well).

Pam's new album will feature a dozen or so of her own compositions with an African theme; and will include her didgerido, djembe (handrum), African percussion, and piano/synth playing, as well as her (virtual) choir "The Girls From Ghana" (which is comprised of Pam's vocal overdubs.

It's a wonderful album will take you on a cultural, spiritual and emotional journey through the African Savannah and the Australian Outback.

If this sounds like music you'd enjoy, then be sure to contact Pam thru her website and reserve a copy for yourself. www.pamelamortensen.com
Studio Project for Boe and Darren of Methane Flame
March 2007
Things have been busy the last few weeks with a new remixing and mastering project I've been doing for a Seattle band called Methane Flame. They're a loud and raucous Lo-Fi Indy band who have three new songs they're releasing at the end of March. Their lyrics pull no punches and comment on everyday life and relationships. The band's currently working to get a website up and running, along with their 3-song EP; while they play a handful of local gigs.
Winter 2007
Things are busy lately...completing a move to one city from another, setting up the studio again, and teaching a new class at one of the local schools. I've been at work again on a dozen new songs to hopefully be released this Spring.
Fall Notes
It's getting cooler in Seattle, and darker earlier in the evenings. That means more time for composing and less time playing outside in the sun. We had a terrific summer here this year.

I'm anticipating the release of the new Sonar 6 software in the next week or so. Cakewalk will begin shipping soon, and this new release promises to have some great new audio tools.

Also, I've been checking out the Decibel Festival in Seattle, WA (USA) this weekend (Sept. 15, 16, 17, 2006) and there's some amazing and talented electronic musicians, as well as great audio software clinics I attended. (Check out the artist named Murcof ) The M-Audio Pro Tools laptop clinic and Ableton Live 6 were very informative and helpful.
Summer and Fall In the Studio
Now that side projects are completed, I'm back in the studio working on my own songs. Stay tuned for more info as it develops. I'm hoping to release some of these songs this fall and winter.

Suzie Grey's 90th Birthday Party
45 of us musicians and friends celebrated Suzie's 90th birthday at the Antique Sandwich Company in Tacoma on June 25th, 2006.

Sean Stirling (pianist-extraordinaire), Alan Kausal (guitar & vocals), and Jeff Davies (Fender bass) were the primary entertainers who kept the audience enthralled with their performances.

Suzie Grey entertained us with several of her original songs, as well as performing a couple of "piano duets" comprised of both she and Sean Stirling playing the same piano keyboard at the same time. This was a delightful evening full of fun and memories for everyone attending.

(I just hope I can be as spry as Suzie if and when I reach 90, and have as many friends!)
June Update
It's been a busy last few weeks, working in the studio with Mick Radford producing, and Robbie D' singing, and us putting finishing touches on their upcoming CD release; as well as me preparing to teach several upcoming classes at Moore Brothers Music (Home Recording and Class Guitar).

Not to mention making the last-minute arrangements for Suzie Grey's 90th Birthday Party/Musical Jam Session, which is also happening in a couple of weeks at the Antique Sandwich, in Tacoma. This is going to be a fun event, so be sure to come by and share a song with us in the musical jam, as well as watch Suzie show us how we can all be active and musical even at the young age of 90. Suzie's vocal and piano CD of wonderful songs will be available for sale at this event.

Mick and Robbie's six-song CD is sounding terrific, with several of the songs sung in Italian, and one in English. When it's complete, there will be a link here and on Mick's site in order to find samples of the songs on Robbie 'D's site (Roberta Del Monte). The CD will also be available through Mick and Robbie D'.

It's no secret that those of us in Seattle are waiting until the day after July 4th for the sun to shine and summer to officially arrive. It rarely fails that we have cloudy weather until the day after the Fourth of July. I can hardly wait for summer to be here!

Edward engineering and Mick Radford producing Robbie D's album
I've been busy working with Mick Radford, and his wife Robbie D' (Roberta Del Monte) to complete production of Robbie's new CD this May.

This CD has been targeted to recieve airplay in June or July 2006 at Delta Uno Radio in Italy.

Mick Radford is an accomplished guitarist and musician, with vast experience. He has performed with many notable musicians throughout his career.

Robbie D' is a well-known singer in Italy. Besides her solo work, she and Mick play in the band "Almost Religion".

See the "Links" section to check out Mick's website and learn more about Mick and Robbie's creative work.
New Song: Peace on the Eve of War
I've uploaded a new song I composed today, which is inspired by Tuvan throat singers and Blind Willie Johnson's song "Dark Was the Night, Cold Was the Ground".

Other musicians use this same harmonic singing technique. There's people who tour the U.S. who are very good at this, such as David Hykes & the Harmonic Choir. He's toured through Seattle in the past. I've never seen him perform live, but I have heard him on the radio, and his music is quite intriguing.

With our country on the brink of becoming involved in a second war any day now, I feel quite powerless, like most Americans to change the disastrous course we're on. All I can do as a citizen and a musician is express what I feel and hope and pray that peace reigns, despite evidence to the contrary.
New Songwriting and My Soapbox
Despite a busy schedule, I've managed to get some time to finish a simple folkstyle song that I've been working on intermittently for the last two months.

This song is called "Like A Pilgrim Stuck In Times Square".

It's my response to all of the craziness I see and experience in the world. I'm sure most of us wonder how one person can make a positive change in this world when global conditions seem so overwhelming and huge. My only solution is to take good care of myself, and work in my little corner of the world to try to be as positive as possible.

I try to treat people how I want to be treated, and send out good vibes to everyone I come into contact with on a daily basis. It's not always easy, and I'm not always successful; but the alternative is not very cool. This world community needs more tolerance and respect of others and to "live and let live".
Spring Happenings
It's already late March and Spring is here in the Northwest. The last several weeks I've been very busy in the studio recording several friends who are music instructors - including a drummer, bassist, and a guitarist who are working on some live demos to post on their websites and to use to get gigs.

I've also been collaborating with another music teacher friend on one of her songs which is about some of the lost tribal cultures in the world.

On top of all of this activity, several of us music instructors at work are now learning the new Pro Tools M-Powered system which was just installed. We want to be able to record our students and ourselves at work, as well as sell similar systems.

Somewhere in all of this flurry of activity I'm making a little time for my own work, with the goal of releasing a small body of work in the next month or two.
Suzie Grey to Celebrate 90 Yrs
Our dear friend, and long-time singer/lyricist/pianist/recording artist and entertainer Suzie Grey will be turning a young 90 yrs. old this June 13, 2006!

I'm helping arrange her 90th birthday party at the Antique Sandwich restaurant in Tacoma on June 25th, 2005 at 6:30pm. You are all invited to attend if you're in the Seattle/Tacoma area that evening.

This will be a celebration and musical jam session and Suzie will spend about an hour performing songs, as well as telling stories about her colorful life of 9 decades. We can all be inspired by this strong woman's life and fine example. I don't know of anyone else this age who's so active, full of life and who is composing, recording and performing at the age of 90!

New Song and Upcoming Studio Work
Today I posted my new song called "Marginalized" on this site. My songwriting is moving forward despite an increased workload teaching, and engineering/producing in the studio.

The current recording project with the European vocalist is just about completed and a new project is due to begin in March. The new project will be an acoustic guitar and vocal album for one of my friends and teaching associates who also plays flamenco, blues, and progressive rock/metal electric guitar. He's a very talented and experienced musician and this should be a fun and productive experience for both of us.

Sometime in March or April I should have links to this fellow's and another musician's websites who I've recorded. I think you'll find both of their work fascinating.

As far as my own compositions goes, two new songs that I've posted are in the electronic medium. I've used vocal samples which I've found intriguing and disturbing. I'm realizing that my work is moving closer towards social commentary than it used to be. My new works in progress which are yet to be completed and released, will continue to reflect my feelings and thoughts about our current human and world condition.

I'm working on three new songs in particular, which are in the categories of: #1. world/electronic (with Eastern vocal samples and my own singing with commentary about the current clash between Islam and Christianity; #2. acoustic blues guitar, piano, harmonica and my vocals (about relationships between men and women); #3. my solo acoustic guitar and vocal (a song for world peace).

More will be revealed...

In The Studio
In the last couple of weeks I've been working on another musician's fascinating studio project. This time I have the honor of working as engineer with a world class musician/producer who is assembling a project for a European singer. This one is lots of fun and I'm learning some new recording tricks as we progress. It's a challenge to have time to continue my own compositions/recording, yet I'm still making progress with my new songs.
New Songs Posted in February 2006
It seems like this year is passing very quickly, and it's only February.

I've been so impressed and inspired by a musician who produced three albums last year, that my goal for 2006 is to do the same thing. (I'm such a slow writer that I need this goal, and letting you be aware of this will help me hold to that goal. I've heard that this worked for another songwriter, so I'm trying it as well.)

In keeping with that, my deadline for the first album release is May 1 of this year.

I already have 25 works-in-progress that I'm whittling down to a final 10 songs for the album. I've very recently posted one of the new songs on this site "Je Devrais M'arreter" ("I Should Stop"), as well as two more songs that are old: "Those Two Hands", and a new arrangement and recording of "Blanche Le Fleur".

I hope you enjoy one or more of these songs.
The new year - teaching, composing, producing
Happy New Year to everyone.

I've been very busy working with many more interesting new students this month. Besides the youngsters, there's many new adult students who are beginning to learn to play guitar or blues harmonica. It's rewarding to see these people learning to play music after having a desire to do so for decades. They are now making time to enjoy creating music. Many of these students are very, very talented.

As far as my own work in the creative world goes...I've been working on dozens of song sketches, and soon I'll begin to post some "works in progress" and/or some finished songs on this site. Songwriting's a slow and interesting process for me. Besides composing on the guitar, I've been using the keyboard much more and have been working with the new softsynths (Cakewalk's "Dimension" synth is my current favorite). The new technology is allowing me to compose in a much larger variety of styles than I've done in the past. My new work includes such styles as Parisian cafe accordion songs, electronic dance pop, gutsy blues/R&B tunes, stirring gospel/spiritual songs, simple acoustic folk songs, and more.

This month (January) I'm in also the studio engineering and producing a project for a musician friend who is a phenomenal guitarist and all around world-class musician. I'm excited and honored to be working with this fellow.

Noted Musician Passes
I'm not one to mention things like this very often; and the passing of most musicians has not emotionally affected me all that much. However, I am deeply saddened to acknowledge the passing of Chris Whitley, age 45, one of the world's most gifted musical artists.

Chris was noted for his songwriting, deep lyrics, emotional singing, and for his performances with the steel resonator guitar (e.g. Dobro/National Steel) as though he were a man possessed. Chris Whitley created some of the most raw, passionate, beautiful, and individualistic music I have ever heard and felt.

I was fortunate enough to have seen and heard Chris Whitley live at the Tractor Tavern in Seattle twice in the last several years. One performance stood out the most. That is when he played the steel resonator guitar with all the creative fury of someone channeling the abilities and artistry of Robert Johnson, Jimi Hendrix, and Thelonious Monk along with his own original voice.

Check out Chris Whitley's albums: "Dirt Floor" (all acoustic resonator guitar and vocals recorded in one take, one microphone, in a barn) and "Soft Dangerous Shores" (resonator guitar, vocals, drums and synths) and you'll see what I mean.

Chris, may you rest in peace.
Victors Show November 19, 2005 Lots of Fun
My music students and I had quite a fun time at the Victors Coffee Company performance and recital on November 19th.

I did my last solo acoustic blues and orginals performance for the foreseable future; and my guitar students performed their current songs live in front of a very appreciative audience. Parents, friends, and passers-by were in attendance for the limited capacity room of 25 people.

Four students performed this evening: a third grade girl who played "Brother John" and has only been studying guitar for 4 months(!), a third grade boy who did a funny comedy routine with me before performing "Minuet" by J.S. Bach, a high school fellow who did a great lead guitar improvisation of Paul McCartney's song "Blackbird", and an adult who performed and sang an open G slide guitar tuning of "Icy Blue Heart" written by John Hyatt as well as the ubiquitous blues song "Key to the Highway" by Big Bill Broonzy. This was a special occaision as it was the musical and vocal debut for each one of these students! I was honored to present them to the public at this time.

As mentioned above, I will be taking time off from performing for the next twelve months so that I can concentrate on composing and recording. It's time to take a new musical direction and work up a new body of work.

Upcoming Performance November 19, 2005
Saturday, November 19th from 8pm to 10pm I'll be performing at Victors Coffee in Redmond, WA. The first hour will be solo guitar and vocals; followed by performances with me accompanying 4 of my guitar students who will do 2 songs each.
Back to School and New Digs
August has passed along with the summer, and many students are returning to their lessons at Moore Brothers Music in Sammamish. I am already working with students to prepare for the next performance/recital which will occur in a few months.

Art Test Atelier (my personal teaching and composing environment) is moving into a new and much larger space during the month of September. When this move is completed we can look forward to some interesting new work to be posted.
Gig at Victors Celtic Coffee
The August 27th performances at Victors were fun and very enjoyable for both myself as well as my music students, their families, and friends.

I performed my first set of original songs and acoustic blues covers and then the first student, a second-grader played "Shoo Fly" and "Old MacDonald". (Did you know that Old MacDonald had a gorilla on his farm?) We all enjoyed his performance and this little boy was very relaxed in front of his first crowd of 30 listeners.

Next up to perform was a teenager who played lead guitar on two songs: "Life By the Drop" and and old Paul Butterfield Blues Band song "I've Got a Mind to Give Up Living". This fellow was impressive for having only played guitar for two years. He too, was relaxed and performed well for his first large audience.

Two adults followed with separate acts. One adult played and sang three songs including an original he and I co-wrote together named "You're in Massachussetts". He was a hit with the audience. The last student played and sang two songs: "Spanish is a Loving Word" and the final song of the night "Two More Bottles of Wine" with which he used his expansive baritone voice to end the evening with a bang.
Upcoming gig at Victors Coffee in Redmond, WA
I'll be performing a solo set of music at Victors Coffee Co. & Roasters on August 27th, 2005. The second set will feature 4 of my music students performing with myself accompanying them. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the last show so this one promises to also be a lot of fun for all of us.
In the Recording Studio
My teaching load has kept me very busy the last several months. Summertime vacations for students however has slowed things down a bit and I've had time to return to composing and recording. I've been itching to give birth to many songs that I've been carrying for some time now. I'm in the process of recording several acoustic blues and folk songs (guitar, piano & voice), along with some more produced tunes which include ethnic percussion and other exotic instruments for my art-pop work. Early feedback from musician friends on these "works in progress" is positive, and I'm excited to be creating again.
Summer Music Lessons
Summer's here and that means school is out for many of my music students. Many of those who have continued music lessons for the summer are working on assembling their repetoire of songs for upcoming recitals that will take place when the remodeling job at Moore Brothers Music in Sammamish, WA is completed. I will also continue to include several students in my future performances, as it is great experience for them to perform in public.

One of my Delta Blues slide guitar, vocal, and harmonica students is attending the Port Townsend Blues Workshop this summer. It promises to be quite an experience and I'm anxious to hear his report when he returns.
Victors Coffee Performance
My recent performance on May 28, 2005 at Victor's Coffee in Redmond, WA was a wonderful success. In the first hour I used fingerpicking, slide, harmonica, and kazoo to perform my Delta Blues originals and covers with 6 & 12-string acoustic guitars, as well as Dobro.

The second hour of the show I accompanied four of my guitar students (one at a time) on guitar and piano. The students peformed very well. Students' ages ran from 8 to 58 and they were a big hit with the crowd (which was standing room only). The entire room, including the coffee maker, was suddently hushed when the first grader played his songs "Brother John" and "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star", as his parents videotaped his performance.

The next student, a teenager, did a fantastic job fingerpicking a complicated 12-string ragtime guitar song named "Janda", by Roger Hubbard of the UK. Shortly afterwards, an adult harmonica student, brought the house down with his hot blues harp playing as we performed "Key to the Highway" together.

Lastly, I accompanied the final adult student, Richard Dempsey, on piano while he sung and played guitar on a swinging, honkeytonk version of the Flying Burrito Brothers song "Sin City". He received several positive comments for his heartfelt vocal rendition. This was my piano debut, and I'm very excited to be adding piano to my live blues guitar show.
Producing another Singer Songwriter's CD
I was honored to be invited to engineer and produce a local Seattle singer songwriter's first album this winter 2004. Originally, this generous musician wanted to make a short demo of songs to share his wonderful voice and guitar music with terminally-ill patients.

As often happens, one thing turned into another and "zap!" - we had so much fun in the studio that he decided to record an entire album's worth of songs, and finalize the project, complete with artwork and all. The results were very satisfying for both of us (artist and engineer/producer)and all those involved listening to his CD and live performances enjoyed both immensely. It was a great thing to do at Christmas time.
